Buttermere & Crummock Water

lake district location guide

Buttermere and Crummock Water are two lakes which are located in the North West region of the Lake District. The area is regarded as the most awe inspiring part of the Lakes, with it being very easy to find yourself in areas of complete remoteness. On a perfect Autumn morning, it's hard to find a place more serene and tranquil than by the shoreline of Buttermere. With the exception of the odd fellow photographer, most mornings here you can find yourself in complete solitude, with not another person in sight! There are three main routes into the area; Borrowdale/Honister Pass, Braithwaite/Newlands Pass or in Winter conditions, taking the A66 to Cockermouth. Followed by the B5292 to Low Lorton and then the B5289 to Crummock Water, with this option being the longest route.
